However, if the material is improperly selected or installed improperly, it is easy to cause the glass to break and cause a safety accident. Because the guardrail has a decorative effect, it is a force-bearing member, which plays a protective role and withstands external forces such as pushing. Therefore, the glass used in the glass cover must have sufficient strength. In general, guardrail glass should be made of tempered glass or laminated glass. When tempered glass is used, its thickness should not be less than 12mm. Since glass is a brittle material, the glass cannot touch the rigid nodes directly, there should be a cushion of elastic material between them. When the design uses pre-embedded glass guardrails on both sides, there should be a gap of more than 3mm where the glass is inserted into the gap of the column, and the gap should be filled with sealant. The depth of the glass embedding groove shall not be less than 12mm.
When the guardrail uses glass to replace the column, there should be a gap of about 8mm between the glass, and a gap of about 8mm between the glass and other materials, and the gap should be filled with sealant. The base of the guardrail is the key part of fixing the guardrail. Generally, the glass is fixed with a fixing piece processed by angle steel and steel plate. The two sides of the fixing piece are fixed to the floor with expansion bolts or fixed with electric welding and embedded parts, and they are not loose. The bottom of the glass and the fixed member is cushioned with a rubber support block with a Shore hardness of 80 to 90. The depth of the glass extending into the fixed member should be greater than 100mm. The glass should extend into both sides of the fixing piece (that is, between the angle steel and the steel plate), leaving a gap of 3 ~ 5mm, filling it with neoprene sheets, and clamping the glass. After the installation is completed and inspected, it is safe and firm, and the surface of the guardrail base is covered and decorated. The gap between the cover material and the glass should be filled with sealant, and the cover material should not directly contact the glass.
